For over 25 years, Marguerite has served as an advocate for improving health care insurance coverage for children in need of speech-language pathology services. She has chaired and been a member of numerous task forces of the Texas Speech-Language-Hearing Association regarding reimbursement issues. Marguerite is currently on the advisory board of the Texas Speech-Language-Hearing Foundation where she is a donor and former member of the board. A unique aspect of Marguerite’s practice of speech-language pathology is that she routinely incorporates written language (reading and written expression) into her treatment plans to enhance the child’s auditory ability to hear the sounds of the English language. Phonemic awareness (an awareness of sounds in spoken words) and phonics (matching sounds and letters) not only helps the child improve oral communication skills, but gently guides the child into becoming an articulate, competent reader and a success in an academic environment.
